Brick Garden: A Media Series Linking Arts Practice with Cultural Research

Pacific Room II , 2nd Floor

The movement that has been described as the “social turn” in art continues to gather momentum as a local, national, and global phenomenon. However, artist/practitioners continue to struggle for resources and for their work to be seen by policymakers, funders, and the general public as a credible path to addressing social challenges. As a response, the Brick Gardens project is being developed as a collaborative, inclusive online and offline space to co-create, define, and promote a theory of change that will lead to cultural acceptance for art and culture-based social problem solving. Design questions the session will offer include:

  • Who will participate in Brick Gardens?
  • What will attract and sustain the discourse until the work is accomplished?
  • How will the theory be put into practice?
  • How will potential impact be determined?

The presenters seek your participation to help answer these questions. They will facilitate a media-rich, inquiry based session, offering an overview of a the Brick Gardens project in its current state of development, and seeking attendees’ feedback beyond what might be expected in standard Q&A.
